I did my first triathlon at the backend of 2020 between COVID lockdowns without any kind of background in swim, bike or run (at least not since being at school…) – I’ve been hooked ever since. From joining the club in 2021, I’ve seen huge improvements in performance across the disciplines, particularly running!

Windrush has been a huge part of that with so much variety, from social runs; to coached interval sessions around track and representing the club at competitive leagues (not to mention all the swim and bike events, which are great too). I can get a bored of the same training over time, so I love the variety of having 3 disciplines to work towards and then bringing it all together on race day.

There’s a great mix of people in the club – I never expected such an individual sport to be sociable. There’s always someone to train with if you fancy it, or just to chat with about triathlon related stuff (because there’s only so much we can bore family and friends on the topic..).

Running is the final leg of the triathlon and therefore the best – right?

I first dabbled in running a way to stay fit after moving to London. Fast forward a few years (!) and a lot of miles later, and I’ve found myself as one of the Windrush run captains.

The weekly Social Runs were one of the first activities I went along to when I joined Windrush Tri. It was a lovely way to get to know other members of the club and do some mid-week miles. Since then, I’ve enjoyed plenty of races and runs through the streets of London or muddy cross-country courses with Windrush Tri – there’s always a friendly crowds and usually home baked goods on offer too. We’re open to a whole range of abilities so do come along and join us.

We run a few different running events at Windrush depending on what you are looking for.

- Our weekly social runs (Tuesday nights – 7/ 7.30 pm depending on the season) are the perfect excuse to get out and exercise on a cold dark night, or sunny summer evening. We run at a chatty pace to keep it inclusive for everyone, with 5km and 10km run options finishing at a local pub to re-hydrate post.

- Our top coaches run a regular track session (Thursday nights) focusing on speed and technique. These tend to move location between Tooting Track in the winter, and a range of parks in summer months.

- Winter Cross Country league – muddy trail courses out of London.

- Ad hoc races through the year, getting groups along to parkrun and our Annual Running Cup (which last year involved a seeded race carrying pumpkins round Dulwich Park).
